Guadalhorce Valley |
This region is anchored on the western side of Malaga’s capital and can be reached through the valley of the river Guadalhorce, after which the region was named. It is ideally located, very close to Malaga capital city, and also near the Costa del Sol, the Parque Natural Sierra de las Nieves, the Desfiladero de los Gaitanes and the water reservoirs’ complex del Chorro, as well as close to the Montes de Malaga.
One of the distinctive characteristics of this region is the existence of microclimates, as a direct consequence of the land form, the orientations, the height above sea level, the plains and the slopes, all of which cause that the winters in this area are milder than in the rest of the province. This climatic characteristic, with absence of extreme temperatures, transform this place in a see-and-do destination featuring stunning views as well as abundant recreational activities related to culture, gastronomy or sports.
Closely linked to the water culture, we find some awesome cultural and forest scenarios, such as mills, irrigation ditches, springs, as well as a traditional handicraft based mainly on ceramics.
Although (officially) there is only one Nature Area, the rock formation Desfiladero de los Gaitanes, many other scenic spots and places of environmental interest, both in the Sierras and the surrounding valley, attract visitors. Many of these places are a monument to outdoor life, where you will be able to practice hiking, climbing or cycling along authorized routes.
